9 Signs You may have Asthma

Asthma is a chronic disease of airways in the body that can develop at any given time of your life. This disease is caused due to the combination of environmental and genetic factors. The symptoms of asthma are quite common, and include wheezing, coughing, chest tightness and shortness of breath. These are the primary signs of asthma, and as soon as one experiences these in a perennial fashion, it’s best to go in for a check-up.

It is not necessary that every person will go through the same kind of symptoms all the time. Different people have different kinds of signs, and some symptoms may eventually lead them to severe asthmatic problems. Many asthmatic people do not see any symptoms for a long period of time, while there are people who will experience worse asthma attacks within a very short course of time. Asthma can sometimes also be caused during excessive exercise or viral infections like cold and cough. The symptoms that you have to be aware of are as follows.

1. Chronic cough

Cough is the most common form of sickness faced by one and all. Hence, this becomes the least surprising symptom of asthma. Cough is a natural process of the human body to rule out irritation, pollens, mucus or smoke from the throat. Therefore, one will not take coughing as a serious symptom of asthmatic attack. Moreover, cough is prevalent during cold or viral infection too. But if you are facing constant cough, which does not seem to go away, it is better to go to a doctor for a complete check-up, and find out if it’s leading to asthma.

2. Bronchitis

Bronchitis is one of the major respiratory disorders. It happens when your bronchial tubes are swollen or inflamed, thereby blocking the air between the nose and lungs. People who suffer from bronchitis are unable to breathe air properly, and that has adverse effects on their lungs. If a child is suffering from bronchitis, he is more likely to suffer from asthma when he grows up. Hence, it is advised to get proper and timely medication for bronchitis, so that asthma attacks and other severe problems can be avoided in the future.

3. Irritation in the throat

When your throat and nasal passage is filled with mucus, then there is constant irritation that makes you clear the throat all the time. In most occasions, people do not pay heed to such kind of irritation, as such things are often caused by cold and cough or viral infection. But sometimes we fail to understand that these are also the symptoms of asthma. When these irritations do not go away or get better with time, it is suggested to go for an overall check-up.

4. Continuous wheezing

Wheezing is one of the most common signs of asthma. When you notice a constant wheezing sound while you are breathing, then there is a high probability of you suffering from asthma. If this sound continues for a long time, then this may be harmful for your lungs too.

5. Wheezing and coughing after exercise

Exercising is a good habit that keeps you fit and healthy. But a lot of times people have to catch their breath after their workout sessions. If you notice a continuous wheezing sound or coughing after you exercise, it is possible that you may have asthma problem. If this continues, visit the doctor immediately, because for all you know, maybe your body can’t handle rigorous workout sessions.
