5 Chores You Must Ask Your Children to Do Themselves

Children are god’s gift to us; it is true, some take it to heart and some accept it and carry on. Those who take it to heart treat kids like precious things and in the end spoil them. The others who see them as gifts but also still see the practical side of things manage to maintain a balance between spoiling their kids and also teaching them the basics of life. Kids are very impressionable and do most things early on looking at their parents. So to inculcate good habits in them, you need to start doing them yourself and one of those things is doing the chores around the house. When you do your chores and work, they learn to do it and if they don’t, you will have to make sure they are given responsibilities early on and do their bit around the house. Here are some chores you must ask your children to do themselves.

1. Picking up after themselves

A lot of kids leave their shoes, coats and clothes behind wherever they take them off. You can see scarves, shoes, coats and socks lying in the hallway, in the living room and in their room. This is something you should not let them get away with and ask them to pick their stuff and put it in their respective places. This helps them to find things easily the next morning and also reduces the time you spend going around the house picking up things. Kids also learn cleanliness and orderliness this way.

2. Washing their dishes

If washing all the things after cooking proves to be too much for them, they should at least be made to do it once in a week, or taught to wash at least the plate that they have eaten from. Instead of leaving it on the table for you to pick it up later, you should ask them to take it and put it in the sink or the dishwasher.

3. Taking out the garbage

Since this is not something that you have to do every day you must ask your kids to take turns in taking out the garbage. They should also learn how to collect the waste, segregate them and put them in bags for disposal.
