Fight Stress With Meditation

Fight Stress With Meditation

Almost all the major religions talk about it. It has been linked with changes in brain functioning, blood pressure, metabolism, pain reduction and stress management. It is meditation. Let’s look at how you can fight stress with meditation.

Why Stress?

Stress pulls you down – emotionally and physically. You may have noticed that people can easily make out when you are stressed. May be it doesn’t happen to you often, but if you are ever stressed, your girlfriend at work will immediately go “Hey, why are you so stressed out?” Stress shows – in our behaviour, attitude, and our mood. You might have also noticed that it impairs your judgement and leaves you annoyed all the time. Did you know that stress can have many other side effects too? It can lead to depression, increased heart rate, headaches, over-eating, lack of sleep, joint pain, social withdrawal and much more.

Why Meditation?

In this modern age, meditation is a self-help tool. What do you think is the first response when you ask people “How does meditation help you?” “It calms you and makes you feel more aware of your surroundings,” is what we’ve heard from most, who practice meditation on a regular basis. Researchers also show that meditation is a very powerful healing tool. Did you know that scientists claim that meditation can alter your brain activity? And that many use it as a recovery tool from serious illnesses or injuries?

Fight – but don’t force it

We think that fighting to avoid stress is more stressful than stress itself. We also believe that trying too hard to meditate is like trying too hard to sleep when you can’t– it just doesn’t help. Many so called self-educated meditation gurus will tell you “Try to focus. Focus on a sound. Focus on an object.” Well, let us tell you– it did not work for many! We are not trying to negate the whole idea of ‘focusing on a particular thing’, it sounds ridiculous to us to try and force something to happen.

Fight stress with meditation – Hit the spot

Fighting stress with meditation is not a struggle. It is an acknowledgement and understanding of your surroundings. Find yourself a good spot to meditate – somewhere away from the daily rut of your life. It can be a quite spot in the back yard or a bench in the park. Make sure you will not be disturbed by other people, the telly, the radio or even your phone.
