5 Ways to Avoid Fighting When You are Cohabiting

Cohabiting relationships are much more than just cozying up together in an apartment without marital baggage. This is the period when a couple gets to know each other inside out. Invariably, fights are bound to ensue. Here are a few ways to avoid fighting when you are cohabiting.

1. Keep reminding yourself that this is your trial period

Cohabitation is a good way to test a couple’s compatibility and tolerance level for each other. Many couples deliberately live-in together to check if they should stay with each other or not. If you are cohabiting, keep reminding yourself that you should be investing your time in knowing your partner thoroughly and not quarreling with him/her.

2. Give each other space

Being in a cohabiting relationship doesn’t mean that you need to breathe down each other’s neck or keep looking over other’s shoulder to keep a track of each other’s move. Give yourself and your partner individual time and space. This way you will avoid fights that usually arise because of taking each other for granted and because of being with each other all the time.

3. Keep crystal clear clarity on sharing expenses

Cohabiting means that you are not married and hence the rules of marriage don’t apply in this case. Therefore, you should not expect your partner to shell out your expenses. Devise a system of sharing monthly bills and avoid getting into awkward circumstances by not fighting over monetary issues.
