3 Benefits of Grape Seed Oil

Grape seed oil is extracted from seeds of grapes and is widely used in medicines, for cooking and for cosmetic procedures due to its nutritional properties. Used extensively in the production of massage oils, sun block creams, face and body moisturizers and so on, there are three major benefits of grape seed oil. They are listed here.

1. Acts as an antioxidant

Grape seed oil is a very powerful antioxidant. It has been scientifically proven that as an antioxidant, grape seed oil is more powerful than other sources of Vitamins E and C. Grape seed oil has anti-inflammatory properties. It can prevent allergies, reduce acne and retain moisture. As a result, it is very effective in treating acne, age spots on the skin, sun burns and other skin conditions like stretch marks, dermatitis, allergic reactions, atopic eczema and dry and itchy skin. Grape seed oil protects the skin from UV radiations from the sun thereby being an effective natural sun block.

2. Lowers cholesterol

Other than being an antioxidant, grape seed oil is also a rich source of vitamin E, flavonoids, vitamin C and beta-carotene. It reduces harmful LDL cholesterol levels in the body thereby making it a healthy ingredient in cooking. It enhances blood circulation, improves vision, and also reduces joint pain by increasing the flexibility of joints . Also known to reduce histamine, grape seed oil is also helpful in preventing asthma and other allergies.

3. Helps to avert diseases

Oral intake of grape seed oil reduces the risks of coronary diseases. Due to the high nutritional value of grape seed oil, it is immensely effective in checking the growth of cancerous cells in the stomach, colon, prostate and lung. It suppresses apoptosis, the process by which cancer cells begin destroying internal organs. Grape seed oil also prevents liver damage. Grape seed oil contains linoleic acid which helps in reducing the adverse effects of diabetes. It also contains oligomeric proanthocyanidin and flavonoids which helps in improving blood circulation and repairing damaged blood vessels which thereby help in preventing haemorrhoids and high blood pressure. It is therefore also helpful in improving cardiovascular health. Grape seed oil also produces collagen which helps to maintain the health of connective tissues in the joints. It, thus, is helpful in preventing joint pain.

Although the health benefits of grape seed oil are plenty, it must be used in proper dosage. Excessive intake might cause headache, nausea, dizziness and abdominal pain. Consult your physician before you begin using grape seed oil.
