What Is Tumescent Liposuction?

As much as you try to avoid accumulating too much of fat on your body, with the passage of time, you tend to collect fat at the most unwanted places. Tumescent liposuction can remove this unwanted fat and the localized fat deposits. It can also be performed on most body parts such as neck, lower abdomen, chin, upper arms, thighs, hips, knees, etc. But this procedure only removes fat and it should not be considered as a substitute for weight reduction. Liposuction contours your body, and is no help in reducing weight. Thus, you should keep up with your diet and exercises to stay fit.

Tumescent liposuction requires local anesthesia and thus does not need hospitalization. But before that, your doctor will check your medical history to see if you have allergies or any other skin problems. Another necessity for performing liposuction on you is that you should have an ideal weight and should be mentally as well as physically fit. Thus, if you are not responding to weight reduction exercises, then your doctor may consider to remove this fat through tumescent liposuction. Your doctor will then inject a solution of saline, local anesthetic and adrenalin which helps prevent blood loss by shrinking the capillaries. After that is done, your doctor will insert a cannula and draw the excessive fat in a controlled manner. This will cause you a little discomfort.

After the procedure is complete, your doctor will dress the area that was treated. Tumescent liposuction is better than surgical liposuction, which was in use earlier. It will take you about a week to recover completely, but you can get back to work after two to three days of the procedure.

Be aware of these facts about liposuction before you plan on getting it done.
