5. Guide dogs for the blind

Do you have a lovely pet Retriever or Lab at your place? Did you know that combined forces of you and your pet together could to wonders to charity? Take your dog to special institutes that train dogs to walk blind people. Pick one visit to a visually challenged person each month. You and your dog can help that person take a walk to the local supermarket, library of a park. Now, how sweet is that? Those charitable institutions for the blind will be very grateful to you.

6. Christmas gifts made by charities

Are you stuck at a mind block as to what gifts you will give your loved ones this Christmas? I’m sure you don’t want to give those same old chocolates, wines and online Christmas like every year, do you? Here’s a fantastic idea. Buy beautiful Christmas cards, candles, tree decoration items, Santa caps and the works made by not-for-profit organisations. They won’t look any different from regular commercial products, but the money raised from the sale will help underprivileged kids. Now that what I call a Merry Christmas!

7. Recycle e-waste

I think the whole world today faces a problem of managing e-waste. Have those outdated computers, printers and DVDs taken up all the space in your store room? I’ll show you a way of clearing it all off. I know – what a relief it is to get all that space for storing something else. Put all your e-waste up on Craigslist.com or in local garage sale. Better still, make hand drawn flyers and distribute it in local libraries or schools – they’re always looking to get free equipment. But I suggest you keep a little dignity by selling e-waste that is still re-usable!
Now do you see how charity is not just about throwing some money into someone’s lap as a matter of pride? It is about continuous, well-meaning and passionate volunteerism that you can enjoy. By donating you time, knowledge, space and resources, you are doing a greater service to the recipient. The satisfaction of doing this knows no bounds!
