7 Top Ideas To Donate To Charities

It’s such a pity that consumption is hitting an all time high but there’s a very small sign of the wealthy shelling out some charity. Well, I’m not talking about famous philanthropists like Warren Buffet and Bill & Melinda Gates, I’m talking about people like you and me. And mind you, it’s not just about cutting a check, there’s a whole lot more to donating than that. Educate yourself and people near you with these top 7 tips of innovative ways of donating:

1. Sponsor a tree, a child, a pet or an elderly patient

Whenever I used to donate cash to not-for-profit organizations, no matter how credible they were, I always felt a shadow of doubt as to where my money was being utilized. Would it go into anyone’s pocket? I later found an answer to this. I decided to promote this concept to my circle of friends. We cut out a fixed amount of money from our monthly income and decide to sponsor one noble cause each month – it could be buying books for a kid, mass plantation of trees, organizing a fundraising marathon or whatever else. They key is to not leave anything completely up to an organization, but get into hands-on volunteering.

2. Free resources

Whether it is giving a year’s stationery to an underprivileged child, buying an year’s stock of adult diapers for bed-ridden aged people or taking a stray pet home for a week. Giving free resources in any form can prove to be a huge help to people who don’t have it.

3. Organ Donation

Haha – don’t freak out – you definitely don’t have to do this whilst you are alive and kicking. All you need to do is to register yourself with a relevant local council or a hospital association and tell them that you want to donate your organ (it could be your retina, heart or even kidneys) to a needy patient after your natural death. It’s like giving a new life to someone – a charity of the biggest kind.

4. Donate books

There’s nothing in the world as good as donating books – especially school and college curriculum and reference books. You could also throw in DVD’s, CD’s and other media that you’ve already used and don’t need any more. Since college freshmen kids are many a times broke, you’ll be doing a great charity to them by giving out a text of $ 150 in just $ 50!
