8 Things to Keep in Mind While Traveling to a Foreign Country

5. Learn the basics of the local language

This is important so that you are able to communicate about basic things, and read stuff such as road signs, maps, directions, prices, etc. You obviously can’t be a pro at the language instantly, but you definitely can keep a pocket guidebook with you, so you can talk to shopkeepers, cab drivers and other important people you happen to meet.

6. Do some food research

If as a vegetarian, you were thrown into a land of non-vegetarians for a month, you would have a hard time finding food for yourself, right? Prior research does no harm. So always research on the local food options available for you, especially if you are a vegetarian. That will help you know what’s available there, and what’s not. Accordingly, you can either pre-book customized meals with your hotels, or can look for restaurants that serve your kind of food.

7. Check on visa stamps

Whenever you are visiting a foreign country, you need a visa for the same. This visa is either provided by the country’s embassy in your own country, before you travel, or is given at the time of arrival, i.e. when you reach the country. Different countries have different visa rules, so you should research on them as per the place you are going. Whatever be the case, you must always be careful of the entry and exit stamps on your visas. Crosscheck twice that you’ve got these stamps properly on your visas, while entering as well as exiting the country. Not having these stamps and the related forms with you can make your travel seem illegal.

8. Plan in advance

Another important thing to remember is that for foreign travel, advance booking on plane tickets and hotels also helps a lot. So the sooner you make your plan and book your tickets, the more money you will save.

Keep these little pointers in mind the next time you are planning a visit to a foreign country, and you are sure to have a safe and happy travel!
