10 Side Effects of Hair Transplant Surgery

Hair transplantation surgery is primarily employed for treating baldness, hair loss and receding hairline. But in many cases, this surgery results in certain ill-effects. Enlisted here are 10 ill effects of hair transplant surgery.

1. Thinning

Right after undergoing hair transplantation surgery, you might get alarmed by rapid thinning of your existing hair. This is a post operative condition which is categorized as normal as the thickness returns within a few months.

2. Bleeding

Bleeding is one of the prominent side-effects of hair transplantation surgery, although in most of the cases, putting pressure over the bleeding area can stop it. In certain cases however, this process fails to stop bleeding. So, in such situations, it becomes necessary for the surgeon to do a little extra stitching for closing the wounds which facilitates bleeding.

3. Itching

Itching is imminent to occur on the areas which are affected by hair transplant surgery. But the situation may become complicated if the itching continues even after weeks. Many hair transplant surgeons and dermatologists often recommend daily use of certain specially designed shampoos for getting rid of itching.

4. Pain

Normally, hair transplant surgery does not involve much pain and almost half of the people who had undergone this process do not require pain relievers for diminishing the pain. However in rare cases, pain relievers like Tylenol might become necessary to prevent the pain.

5. Swelling

Swelling around the eyes and in the forehead are some of the common ill-effects of hair transplant surgery. It does not last more than three days and if under some special circumstances it continues to appear even after three days, then it is better advised for the patient to consult the surgeon immediately.
