9 Tips to Make Your House Safer for Kids

6. Use fireplace only in your presence

Don’t light up wood logs in the fireplace when there is a child in the house unless you or some other responsible adult is present at all times in that room. If cold, you could use heaters.

7. Attach baby cams

If your child is the adventurous kind, and you have a big house, the wise thing would be to attach a baby camera in his room. Keep the main screen in the room where you work the most. This way you can make sure that your baby is always safely tucked in his room.

8. Anchor down heavy items

Heavy electronic items such as TVs, lamps, PCs, tube lights, etc. should be anchored down or up. Meaning, they should be affixed on tables steady enough to be screwed on the ground lest toddlers fiddle with the wires and the heavy items fall down on them.

9. Do the crawl test

Crawl around your house on all fours like a baby and observe the dangers that could come in your way from his or her point of view. Amend those obstacles and dangers accordingly.
