6 Things You Must Know About IUDS

4. They do not prevent transmission of AIDS and other sexual diseases

Since it is an intra-uterine device and is fitted inside your body, it is only effective against unwanted pregnancies, but can do nothing to prevent transmission of AIDS and other sexual diseases such as Syphilis and Gonorrhea.

5. You do not become infertile because you use an IUD

An infection that causes a sexually transmitted disease can make you infertile. Your using an IUD has absolutely no effect in the cause of the infection or its progression. Since IUD’s do not protect against sexually transmitted infections, it is wrongly assumed that IUD’s cause infertility in women.

6. Hormonal IUD’s cause less side effects than the birth control pills

There is the usual nausea, breast tenderness and irregular periods for the first 3-4 months, and after that the side effects are minimal. This way the IUD is a much safer and comfortable option as a birth control mechanism than the pill.

IUD’s can be used by anyone and it is the best form of birth control available if you are not into using condoms and pills.
