How To Baby Proof Your Home?

6.Bathrooms

Bathrooms and toilets can also be of danger to the child. Ensure that the door to the bathroom has a child stopper to it and that the toilet has a latch. Ensure that all cosmetics, scissors and razor blades are well out of reach of the baby. Be very careful with hot water and ensure that the water is cold from every faucet when the baby is in. Faucet covers are a good idea too. Never leave the baby alone in the bathroom for a minute as there are chances for him/her to drown.

7.Water Heaters

Ensure that the water in the water heater is no more than 120 degree Fahrenheit. There may be times that the heated water may be left and if the baby accidentally starts the faucet, it would end up with the baby burning himself/herself. Thus, check the faucets and have faucet covers so that the baby does not turn the faucet on accidentally.

8.Doors and Closets

Doors and closets should have a latch as well as a child stopper. Children can be quick at opening doors and venture outside. This may prove to be very dangerous. Also closets are where we choose to store things that may prove to be hazardous to the baby. In a special mention, ensure that the storage beneath the kitchen sink is well latched and has a child lock as well for that is the area people generally choose to store cleaners and other toxic materials.

9.Window Blinds

Cords from window blinds or drapes should be made short, wrapped up or tied up at a place which is well above the child’s reach. These cords are long and may result in the baby playing with it and accidentally strangulating himself/herself without anyone knowing about it. A good alternative to long cords is the twist ties.

10.Sharp Edges

Sharp edges are of maximum risk once the baby starts crawling or walking. These edges would hurt the baby and result in cuts. The best way to resolve this issue is by sobering down these edges and making them blunter. In case of furniture like tables when sharp edges cannot be resolved, try to soften it down by the use of table cloths. Sharp edges should be tackled as a priority once you know that there is a baby coming home.
