6 Tips to Survive the Holiday Season on a Budget

The months November and December can be pretty difficult months to survive if you are living on a budget. I being the holiday season, you will be bombarded with unexpected needs and reasons to spend more money that you had actually planned for and will be overshooting your budget in no time. When you do not maintain your expenses within your budget, you will have to make adjustments in your next month budget and will have to forego a lot of other important things and keep calculating every penny you spend for a long time. To avoid feeling stressed out over money, you can follow some of these tips to survive this holiday season on a budget.

1. Resist the temptation

There will be a lot of offers on almost everything during the holiday season and you might find something that you really like or had wanted for a long time. Resist the temptation to buy it even if the offer is a steal. If it is something you really do not need at all, then there is no harm in waiting for it the next season or buy it after your financial position is stabilized.

2. Save up a little before the holiday season

Keep putting in a small amount of money and do not touch it the entire year. This will be your money to be spent on the holiday and you will not overshoot your budget. Even ten dollars a week for the whole year would leave you with enough money to survive the holidays.

3. Buy gifts whenever you can

You don’t have to wait till the holiday season to buy gifts. You can buy them any time of the year and store them so you can gift them during the holiday. If you pile up the gifts earlier, you can save yourself the embarrassment of going to a party without a gift.
