5 Causes of Hormonal Imbalance

Hormonal imbalance can throw a woman’s life out of gear. Stress, anxiety, low libido, hot flashes and chills, lack of sleep, headache, and a list of woes galore if there is an imbalance in hormone levels. It is not always menopause that causes fluctuations in hormones, but there are other reasons as well. Consult your doctor in case you are troubled by the hormone variation symptoms. Check out 5 causes that can trigger hormonal imbalance in a woman’s body.

1. Stress causes hormonal changes

Remember, if you are stressed out, your body produces cortisol which in excess will trigger the production of hormone estrogen. If estrogen dominates in your body rather than progesterone, it can lead to various problems like weight gain, cravings for certain food, mood shifts, tiredness and the like.

2. What you eat triggers hormonal variations

Foods such as sugar, carbohydrates, beverages like tea and coffee and stimulants like tobacco can lead to a rising cortisol level in the body. Too much cortisol also is bad, as it leads to hormonal imbalance. Vitamin or nutrient deficiency leads to poor functioning of vital organs, which in turn affects proper hormone production.

3. Birth control pills may cause hormonal imbalance

Birth control pills actually force a woman’s body to take in unwanted hormones and also decide the menstrual cycle rather than letting it occur naturally. Hormonal imbalances can also be triggered by pregnancy leading to hyperthyroidism and gestational diabetes.
