10 Early Signs of Diabetes

10 Early Signs of Diabetes
Diabetes is a disease in which the blood sugar level increases due to deficit of insulin in the body. There are mostly three types of diabetes.

I. Type 1 diabetes – This occurs in children whereby the cells in their body stop responding to insulin resulting in increase in blood sugar level.

II. Type 2 diabetes – This diabetes is mostly seen in middle-aged or old people. This is due to the inability of the body to produce insulin.

III. Gestational diabetes – This occurs when a women is pregnant. It is not necessary that if a woman was not a diabetic before pregnancy, she cannot contract diabetes during pregnancy.

There are many early signs of diabetes. These signs if seen in a person, should be checked without any delay.

1. Fatigue

In diabetes, the insulin is inactive, so breaking down of glucose doesn’t take place and energy is not released. Thus the person feels weak, irritated and tired.

2. Dry skin

Dry skin or itchy skin may happen due to peripheral neuropathy affecting circulation and functioning of sweat glands.

3. Disproportionate increase of thirst and urination

This is one of the most common signs of diabetes. In this condition, the kidney secrets large amount of fluids resulting in dehydration of the body. Thus, thirst increases abnormally.

4. Slow healing of wounds

Due to improper functioning of insulin, the immune system of the body weakens. Thus a wound takes long time to heal.

5. Sudden weight loss

If a person observes their weight to change abnormally without any physical exercise, they should go for a diabetic checkup. Weight loss takes place due to inability of the body to release energy. It occurs mostly for type 1 diabetes.
