8 Ways You Can Protect Yourself from UV Rays

Protecting your skin from Sun exposure may not be on your priority list but a prolonged exposure to UV radiation may lead to problems like skin cancer. The radiation is at its strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you happen to leave the house especially during these hours, here are a few tips to help you save yourself from the harmful effects of UV radiation.

1. Use a sunscreen

Do not just use any sunscreen. Carefully read the label to select a minimum Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15. You should apply the sunscreen about 20 minutes before you leave the house.

2. Cover your exposed body parts

To seek respite from the heat, you may choose to wear sleeveless clothes or skimpy dresses. However, this may work against you as it will leave a lot of areas exposed to UV radiation. Opt wearing tightly woven, lightweight, and opaque clothing.

3. Wear a hat

A wide-brimmed hat may just be the thing for you. You can choose from a range of stylish hats to go with your attire. This will keep your face, head, ears, neck, lower face, and temples from direct sunlight.

4. Wear a bandana

Yet another stylish way of saving yourself from excessive UV radiation. Wearing a cool bandana around the neck will provide you additional protection.
