8 Tips for Frugal Living

In this day and age, it is very important to think twice before you splurge. With the kind of economy we have, it makes all the sense in the world to focus on saving for the future. We give you some of the ways in which you can cut down on your expenses and live a frugal life.

1. Buy what you need

The simplest and the most effective ways of living frugally is to not spend on things that you do not need. You will be surprised to realize how much money this can save you. Every time you buy something ask yourself, “Do I really need it?” If the answer is “no”, then stop yourself from spending money on it. This can also extend to how much you spend on consumer durables. When buying a TV, a car, a music system, etc., ask yourself, “Will it do if I buy a cheaper model?”

2. Use a bicycle

If your workplace is not very far, then you can choose riding a bicycle rather than spending money on fuel. A cycle requires minimal maintenance, keeps you healthy, and is good for the environment. Even if you have to use a four wheeler to go to office, try carpooling and save some bucks.

3. Stick to the budget

When you want to live frugally, then it is crucial that you make a budget. Think of how much you want to spend in a month and carefully list down the amount of money you want to spend on your requirements. The next step is to ensure that no matter what, you stick to the limit that you have set for yourself.

4. Find free entertainment

You might be spending a lot of money on weekend entertainment or while taking your family out for a good time. You need not spend a lot of money to ensure that you have quality family time. You can figure out ways of entertainment that do not cost much. Your public library can prove very effective and offer you a range of interesting books and DVDs. You can go for some free plays in and around your area. In other words, just because you are being frugal, doesn’t mean you have to stop having fun.
