Alcohol affects a person in a lot of ways, not only does it spoil the physical health of a person, but it also affects the mental strength and slowly decreases the mental balance in a person. An alcoholic can be pretty dangerous as they have to drink on a regular basis and lack of alcohol in their system can make them do crazy things at times. Too much alcohol can also lead to blackouts and some pretty violent episodes. It can never be easy to be in a relationship with an alcoholic boyfriend, and are the committed type, here are a few things you need to know and a few ways you should know to handle him both for his safety and yours.

1. Do not encourage his alcoholic bouts

You would not encourage him actively to drink, but condoning his behavior when he is drunk and letting him have his drinks are also signs of encouragement. Let him know in clear terms that you do not like him drinking so heavily and that you want him to change if you are to continue in this relationship with him.

2. Have a backup and let him know of it

Always have a friend or a family member you can call in case things go out of hand. Also let him know that someone is around to help you in case his alcoholism takes over and he gets violent with you.

3. Give him an ultimatum

Give him an ultimatum of a month or a few weeks or whatever you and he are comfortable with so he can quit his alcohol addiction. It is not healthy for either of you to be in a relationship when he is an alcoholic.
