8 Tips to Take Control of Your Marriage

5. Be a little selfish

If you feel that you are the only one who is making the effort in making the marriage work or that you are being taken for granted, then you must try being a little selfish. Sometimes, it is okay to put yourself first and think of how you would want things to be. Only when you know what you want can you make efforts to achieve it.

6. Spend some time apart

Sometimes you need some time apart to realize each other’s value. They say that distance makes the heart grow fonder and it might be just the thing that your marriage needs. When a marriage is going through a really rough patch, you sometimes need some time alone with your thoughts and to get a fresh perspective on things. Give each other that time and space.

7. Apologize

There are times when a simple “sorry” could save a failing marriage. Admitting your mistake shows that you care for the other person’s feelings and are humble enough to say that you are sorry. It can really make the other person see you in a different light.

8. Forgive

If you have the ability to let go, then it could do wonders for your marriage. They say that forgiveness is a gift that you give to yourself. You must learn how to forgive your loved ones and also yourself. Holding on to grudges or fighting over things that happened in the past will make it impossible for you to enjoy the present.
