6 Ways to Deal With Your Rude Teen

4. Set an example with your own behavior

If you behave rudely with your husband or any other family member in the house, you may be setting a very bad example for your teen. Don’t send out a message to your teen which says that rudeness and yelling works in your home. You cannot expect to tame your rude teen until you first fix your own behavior and set an ideal example.

5. Show your teen different ways to establish independence

Teens may believe that the only way of asserting their independence is to counter the authority of their parents. This pattern of thinking makes them rebellious without a reason, because of which they tend to talk back. If you think that your teen’s rudeness is arising out of a similar need to show authority, figure out how you can channel this need. Get your teen to make independent decisions about matters like allowances, career or dating. Make your teen feel independent and important.

6. Treat your teen like an adult

Teenage can be a confusing part of growing up because kids at this stage are neither innocent like children, nor completely mature like adults. They would love to grow up fast and be treated like adults by their parents and other family members. You should stop looking over your teen’s shoulders, avoid micro managing their life and maybe even ask for your teen’s opinion about an important matter. This way you may earn your teen’s respect and rude behavior may decline gradually.
