6 Tips to Help Your Husband Cope with a Setback in His Career

4. Brainstorm for the future together

Don’t treat your husband’s career as a separate entity from his persona. His career is likely to form a large part of his self esteem and pride. Brainstorm your husband about what he can do next and how he can move ahead in his future. Be the person who brings the solutions, not just the person who pays lip service to assurance.

5. Network on your husband’s behalf

If your husband is looking for professional help or new opportunities, he may need your help in spreading the word. After getting your husband’s approval, help him find the right people and resources either through the internet, newspaper ads, through your social circles or job fairs. With two people putting in effort, chances of your husband getting new opportunities will multiply.

6. Make him reflect on the reasons of his setback

Supporting your husband in his career setback may not be enough. Talk to him about what went wrong and where the downfall started from. By conversing with him on topics related to the causes of setback, your husband might be able to realize that all the odds were against him and he did the best he could, or that his setback happened due to changes in the company’s policies and not because of his under performance. This catharsis will help him to get rid of the mystery associated with his setback.
