Top 10 Hollywood Blockbusters That You Must Watch

I was recently talking to my friend about Oscar winning movies and how many of them we have seen. But do you know what conclusion we arrived at? That all the top grossing Hollywood films are not necessarily Oscar winners! Anyways, here’s my list of all time Hollywood top grossing films, in no particular order. You seriously can’t miss watching any of them.

Jurassic Park (1993)

1. Jurassic Park (1993)

If you ask me who the best director of my generation is, then the first name that comes to my mind is Steven Spielberg. I read somewhere that in 1993, Jurassic Park grossed about $914,691,118 at the box office. And mind you, this is without any extra earning of the online medium. Now, if we look back and see, the CG effects in the nineties would have been quite a challenge. A true blockbuster!

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999)

2. Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999)

I remember watching Star Wars' entire series again and again, sweeping off tubs and tubs of popcorn. I used to love saying, 'May the Force be with you' and mimic Anakin Skywalker. Hats off to George Lucas who made around $924,300,000 at the box office by attempting such a superb mixture of the epic and sci-fi genre. I'm surely going to pass down this film to my kids.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)

3. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)

Do you know what the fascinating thing about the 'Lord of the Rings' is? It is one of the few trilogies in which every single part has been a top grosser. Now, that's quite a rarity, don’t you think? Cash registers were set ringing at an approximate for $926,287,400 with this film. Dwarfs, elves, hobbits and wizards could never have captured people's imagination they way they did in this adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien’s epic novel by Peter Jackson.

Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix (2007)

4. Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix (2007)

I remember when we didn’t get tickets to watch this film when it released, my young niece cried her heart out because her friends would be able to watch it before her! Believe it or not, she has all the possible Harry Potter merchandise possible. And why not? This adaptation of J. K. Rowling's bestselling Harry Potter books by David Yates is known to have grossed around $938,464,961. I'm sure that the children of today are going to love it forever.

Titanic (1997)

5. Titanic (1997)

Now show me one person on this planet that hasn’t seen this classic of our generation by James Cameron! Who can forget those beautiful scenes of old Rose throwing her beautiful aquamarine neckpiece in the dark blue ocean waters or when Rose and Jack stood at the helm of the ship deck with their arms spread wide in a romantic entangle? To put it simply, this movie won more than 10 Oscars and grossed more than $1,845,034,188. Need I say anything more?

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006)

6. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006)

Although this film got mixed reviews, I adored this film because I'm a true blue Johnny Depp fan, just like all you beautiful ladies out there. Did you know that the worldwide collection of this film is about a whopping crazy $1,066,179,725? Now, I can't even imagine how much money that would amount to! If you haven’t seen this trilogy, you've got to get a DVD set today.

The Dark Knight (2008)

7. The Dark Knight (2008)

If you’re a Heath Ledger fan, there's no question that you swear by 'The Dark Knight'. It's insane to see Mastermind Joker drive Batman, Gordon and Harvey Dent up the wall to the most difficult and adventures tasks you can imagine. Christopher Nolan delivered yet another classic which grossed about $533,345,358. I hear the sound of tingling cash registers!

Avatar (2009)

8. Avatar (2009)

James Cameron is one filmmaker who is a true grand master – having surpassed his own standards and records after Titanic broke all hell loose. This fascinating 3D work of art takes us deep into questions like 'What could our future generation be?' Although the storyline is a little complex, I totally enjoyed the IMAX 3D experience that grossed more than $2 billion. Get transported to Pandora land!

Ice Age(2009)

9. Ice Age(2009)

Sid's attempt to adopt and care for three baby dinosaurs leads him and his friends into an underground world. Making use of 3-D computer animation and graphics, this movie delivered a performance that hardly any movies today are able to deliver. Apart from the fact that is so hilarious that you will fall on the floor laughing, the story-line has a very emotional and sentimental feel to it. In spite of receiving mixed reviews from critics, The Dawn Of the Dinosaurs, managed to become the third highest grossing animated film of all time. The film earned about $886.7 million world-wide. Now that's a lot of money!

The Lion King (1994)

10. The Lion King (1994)

This lovely story of courage, love, relationships and deceit told through the animal kingdom is one movie that I can never erase from my mind. I still get shivers when I think of that scene when Mufasa was thrown off the cliff and little Simba didn’t know what to do. This favorite masterpiece of mine is said to have grossed around $455,300,000 worldwide.

It’s actually quite fun to watch all these Hollywood blockbusters again with a set of friends and a few tubs of popcorn to while a weekend away. So stop dreaming about all those zeros in the dollar amounts and start renting DVDs to indulge in the ultimate pleasure.
