5 Ways to Bring Up a Happy Child

4. Praise and encourage

Studies have shown a link between happiness and self-esteem. While this does not mean you turn into an overzealous cheerleader praising his/her every move, you must keep in mind to inculcate in him/her a healthy sense of self-respect. Make him/her believe in himself/herself. This is the best gift you can give your child.

5. Delegate real responsibilities

Children feel happy when they know that what they do matters. Give some household responsibilities to your children to communicate to them that they are contributing towards the family. A sense of responsibility from an early age gives a boost to your children’s sense of self-worth. As long as they feel that they are doing something meaningful, it will enhance their feelings of confidence and connectedness – two important prerequisites for happiness.
