How To Avoid Getting Dumped With Work?

You are an employee, not a slave. Tell it to yourself over an over again since it will make you realize that you can say ‘NO’ to a job.

Back up your ‘No’ with data. Give your boss proper reasons as to why you cannot do a particular job. It could be because it does not match your skill set or maybe because you are currently occupied with too many tasks.

If you cannot say ‘NO’, postpone it. It is a cruel but true fact that some bosses hate to hear ‘no’. In that case, ask your boss for more time to complete the job, or explain to him why you will surely get to the job after a few days.

Prioritization is a must. Just because you can say ‘No’, do not say so. If the job that your boss has assigned you is really important and urgent, it is wise to re-prioritize your tasks. You can ask your boss about the urgency of this new task and all the other tasks at hand. If he claims that the new job is an urgent one, inform him about the possible delayed completion of other tasks because you will be attending this new task first. This way, you will firstly impress your boss with your organizing skills and it will also reveal your dedication towards your work and your workplace.
