4. Help others be happy

Make it a habit to make at least one person happy every day. You can spend some time chatting with a sad person, give a generous tip to someone another day or surprise someone with a gift or an appearance to make them happy. It need not be a big thing, but make it a habit to make people smile and be happy. It isn’t easy but there is no harm in trying.

5. Set doable goals

Instead of setting impossible goals and working yourself to death trying to achieve it, you can set doable goals that will not make you compromise on the good things in life. You will be happy working towards achieving the goal and also be happier when you have actually gotten what you wanted.

6. Get rid of your bad habits

If some of your old habits are making you unhappy, it is time you quit them. You may not even know it yourself sometimes, but there will always be someone who can point it out to you, listen patiently when someone tells you your habits are making you unhappy. If it is smoking, drinking, gambling or being a workaholic or anything that makes you sad or unhappy, you should stop doing it.

It is not always true that old habits die hard. With willpower and perseverance you can always develop new habits, stick to them and be happy.
