4. A lot of British talent has come to the fore and been nominated

Stephen McQueen, the director of twelve years a slave, Dame Judie Dench for her role in Philomena, Sally Hawkins in Blue Jasmine and many others including Christian Bale have been nominated this year, making 2014 a good year for British talent.

5. It is a record nomination year for dame Judie Dench

With the 2014 nomination, the total number of nominations for dame Judie Dench has reached 15 easily making her the most nominated throughout the history of BAFTA.

6. Some favorites did not even get nominated

Forget winning an award, some of the favorites like Mathew McConaughey for Dallas Buyers’ Club, Meryl Streep and Robert Redford in All is lost and Idris Elba in Mandela did not even get nominated for their brilliant acting.

It remains to see how many of these nominations actually turn to awards and how many disappointments and shocks are in store on the award night.
