4. Bring the matter to the fore

Bring the matter to everyone’s notice. If there are people among your friends, family or relatives who do not know about it, tell them. Make them aware of what is being done to you. Do not shy away from telling people in fear of “what society will say?” Remember that society is, in fact, a very feeble concept. You too constitute society, and no matter what they think or say, it makes no difference to your individual life and eventually, society does not tolerate injustice.

5. Get independent

Most importantly, you must at once get propped up and become independent. Get a job or do anything that you know will earn you a respectable income and get out of the house that is causing you suffering. You might also want to relocate to start afresh. Go ahead and make the choices that you think are best for your life. Don’t let domestic violence curb your dreams and aspirations.

6. Move court if needed

Finally, when you are ready and know that you must, move court and file a case against the culprit or culprits. Be prepared for a trial and no matter how the proceedings go or how you ensure that the wrongdoers are punished, the culprits will certainly have learnt their lesson.
