Top 4 Tips on Coping With a Family Member With Cancer

3. Lead a normal lifestyle

Though impossible, try and maintain a normal lifestyle as though nothing has happened. This would make sure the patient isn’t constantly reminded about the illness. At home, undoubtedly, everything changes. Life is never the same again when a family member is diagnosed with cancer, but if you keep things normal as they originally were, the negative feelings will not seep in that badly.

4. Do not talk about the changes that you notice

When treatment starts, the patient will show several side effects like weight loss, hair loss and so on due to regimens like chemotherapy. Do not talk about them. Let such things not be so conspicuous. Take less notice of such abnormalities and accept, talk to and behave with the patient just like you would even if they had not had cancer. Ensure that the patient does not consider himself/herself unfortunate because of the disease.
