6 Tips to Master Your Hobby

4. Ask your teacher or mentor questions

When you have taken up a hobby which entails learning from a tutor or being guided by a mentor, it is important to be proactive. Don’t just absorb what your teacher teaches you. Ask him or her questions and challenge the things you don’t agree with. Your enthusiasm to learn and your curiosity may incite more interest in your teacher to teach you too.

5. Invest your time in related disciplines

No hobby or discipline exists in a vacuum or is bereft of a context. Take some interest in allied fields or related subjects to have well rounded knowledge about the hobby you are pursuing. For example, if your hobby is gardening, you should know a bit about landscaping, organic farming and soil science too. If your hobby is dancing, you should know about music and theater. If you are learning a new language, you should know a little about linguistics and the culture of the country which that language belongs to.

6. Have patience and perseverance

Just like Rome was not built in a day, you cannot master any hobby overnight. It may take you months or even years to master any hobby. Don’t expect yourself to excel at a hobby within a few weeks that you take it up. This will only cause you disappointment.
