6. Set your daily sleep-wake clock

7. Take it easy on the alcohol, caffeine and tobacco

Alcohols like red wine and dark liquors are known to cause severe headache. Smoking literally kills your immunity, making you prone to a host of illness including headache. Similarly, if you become dependent on caffeine containing substances like coffee or certain painkillers, there are higher chances that your head might start pounding more frequently. Be aware of rebound headaches. That is, too much ingestion of caffeine through drinks as well as pills can lead to nightmarish headaches.

8. De-stress yourself

Let your body and mind relax for at least 30 minutes every day. Do yoga, meditation, go for a walk, listen to soothing music or do whatever that de-stresses you. This will bring down the frequency and severity of your headaches.

9. Try aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a highly recommended way to relieve your throbbing headache. Common preparations include essential oils of lavender, sweet marjoram and chamomile. An oil mixture of rosemary, nutmeg, lavender and a carrier oil also works well. You can massage your neck, put it in your bath or simply inhale the scents.
