3. The 5 second rule is a popular piece of Folklore
This rule is quite famous and pops up frequently in popular culture and had made quite comical and hilarious appearances in the live-action and animated films such as Osmosis Jones, Grey’s Anatomy, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Arthur, Raising Hope, Bucket & Skinner’s Epic Adventures, Lucky Star, The Simpsons, How I Met Your Mother, Waiting… and Happy Endings.
4. This rule does not apply to liquid foods
And the reasons are quite obvious. Anything that cannot be picked with without scraping the floor or needs to be scooped up does not fall into the five seconds rule. There are also certain rules such as cleaning the food if picked up after 5 seconds, picking it up before five seconds, not bringing in foods like jello into the rule and continuing the count from the previous time if you dropped food the second time.
No matter what the scientific experiments say, there are a decent number of people out there who do not mind picking up a chip off the floor and eating it.
