6 Super Ways to Improve Your Emotional Intelligence

4. Be broad minded

A parochial and insular mind can never have strong emotional intelligence because it is contrived in such a way that it would not allow anything else to enter it to provoke reflection. Being narrow minded is the worst that could happen to you. In this age of globalization, you should have a broad mind and be open to ideas and practices all over the world-not merely your region or country. You may not be agreeable to everything, but you should also not be snobbish, without any real reason. A broad mind opens you up to a variety of social, cultural and emotional experiences which will not only improve your EQ drastically, but will also make you a better person.

5. Practice empathy

Empathy is the virtue of wise people. There are life problems, there are discordant people and then there are people who accept everything as they are, accept the fact that they cannot do anything to change everything for the better and make peace with the fact that life is in fact meant to be the way it is. By practicing empathy you see things and situations from the perspective of others and have a much broader vision of the world-you get to see what is commonly referred to as the “larger picture.” By keeping an open mind, you learn of opinions of other people, thoughts and nuances of other people in other situations and know that emotions are after all subjective reactions to things which make no difference in the world!

6. Think positive and be optimistic
The only secret to a happy and successful life is optimism. When you are optimistic, nothing can affect you and break you down emotionally as well as physically. Think positive and expect the best always. Of course, take precautions and steps to avoid negative things in life, but do not give them much thought. Fill your mind with positive, appreciative, exciting and gratifying thoughts only, and your positive attitude will not only make you happy by giving you stronger emotional intelligence, but will change your life for the better.
