6 Signs of Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer affects a number of women worldwide every year. Ovarian cancer is a cancerous growth in the ovaries. Over 90 % of ovarian cancer is said to arise from the surface of the ovary i.e. the epithelial layer and are classified as epithelial. There may be cancerous growth in the fallopian tube also and since these two are close, sometimes cancer in the fallopian tubes mimics ovarian cancer. Other types of ovarian cancer are caused by germ cell tumors and other supporting cells. Older women who have never become pregnant, infertile women with a condition called endometriosis are under high risk of contracting ovarian cancer. Hereditary reasons are also a factor that increases the risk of ovarian cancer in women. The problem with ovarian cancer is that diagnosis is difficult and the symptoms aren’t really specific. The signs and symptoms can be confused with other common ailments. Here are some signs of ovarian cancer.

1. Bloating

Your stomach would have a bloated appearance and feel even when you have not eaten a lot and had a lot of water to drink. A bloated stomach does not automatically mean that you have ovarian cancer, but if it persists for a long time, it is better to go and get yourself tested.

2. Pelvic and abdominal pain

A sharp and consistent pain the pelvic and the abdominal region can also be a symptom of ovarian cancer.

3. Satiety

You will feel full even when you have had very little to eat. If you can take only a small portion of your regular meals and still feel full, you should get yourself tested for ovarian cancer. This can also be caused by other factors, but it is safer to get tested at an earlier stage.
