13 Reasons For Stomach Pain

8. Gerd

GERD, short for Gastroesophageal reflex disease is a disease in which the food and acids from the stomach start going upwards when the valve dividing the stomach and the esophagus becomes weak. This condition happens due to some kinds of medication and excessive eating or wrong eating habits. The pain mostly happens in the upper stomach area, just bordering the lower chest area.

9. Gluten Intolerance

Some people are intolerant to Gluten, which is a kind of protein found in wheat and barley. The small intestine is unable to work properly and absorb the nutrients, which results in pain, bloating, gas etc. The severe form of this intolerance is referred to as ‘celiac disease’.

10. Stress

Whether you believe it or not, your mental state is totally linked to the physical state of your body. When suffering from stress or depression, or even excessive anxiety, your stomach can start to act in unpredictable ways and doesn’t process or digest food smoothly. It can also lead to something called the ‘Irritable Bowel Syndrome’.

11. Thyroid Issues

Hyperthyroidism and Hypothyroidism can both cause stomach issues. Even though the thyroid gland is near the neck, it plays a vital role in the digestion system of the body. Hyperthyroidism can cause diarrhea and pain in the stomach, while Hypothyroidism can lead to constipation and stomach discomfort.

12. Parasites

These enter your body and cause a lot of problems. They enter via contaminated food or water, or even swimming in unclean pools. They stay in your stomach and interfere with the smooth digestion and absorption of nutrients, thereby causing pain and discomfort. In such cases, meeting a doctor is a must.

13. Too much sorbitol

Sorbitol is an element found in sugar-free substances, and consuming too much of it can cause stomach problems, ranging form diarrhea to abdominal pain. This is the reason why doctors suggest that even when trying to cut sugar from your diet actively, substituting it with natural ingredients is better and important rather than going with processed sugar-free items.

Needless to say, there are many other causes of stomach pain too. However, this is a list of some of the most common reasons behind stomach pain, and it helps to identify what could have possibly gone wrong. If the pain persists for more than a day and doesn’t go even after proper bowel movement, or if you notice something odd in your bowel movement, then you must connect with a doctor without any further delay.
