How To Treat Oily Skin?

Prevention and care for oily skin

The oily skin syndrome may be temporary, when suddenly a person’s skin erupts and becomes oily within 2-3 hours of washing the face. It can be also be something that has assailed a person for a long period or from adolescence and may trouble the person throughout life. Washing the face twice a day suffices but washing with soap can be harmful as soap can deprive the skin of the fatty layer which keeps it plump and healthy. Using a mild or natural astringent like lime or rubbing the face with a slice of lemon will mop out the excess oil from the skin gently. Applying mild astringent and toners are necessary to keep the oil level in check. One of the key things a person with oily skin should avoid is, using harsh chemicals or scrubbing agents to remove the excess oil. This actually has a very dire reaction, where the essential oils are cleaned and the sebaceous glands work overtime to replace the oil. This also acts on the fatty layer of the skin, which is necessary for healthy skin. Using a cream, lotion or solution, with glycolic acid or salicylic acid, can act as a mild cleansing agent. There are some topical treatments that will mop the excess oil without harming the skin in any way. These are available over the counter as creams, lotions and solutions that are effective for patients suffering from severe oily skin.

One more thing that the patient needs to keep in mind is that the skin needs to be moisturized by a water based moisturizer that will keep the moisture level intact. Moisture need not necessarily mean oil or sebum. So, even if the face is oily, moisturizing the skin is vital. Hence, good preventive and curative procedures by the patient will help to keep the oily skin soft, healthy and glowing.
