How to Solve a Conflict?

How to Solve a Conflict?

No two people think alike and therefore no two opinions are alike. There will always be a difference in opinion every step of the way. This difference is what leads to a conflict. Conflicts are a part of everything, wherever there are thoughts and ideas. However, it is essential to know how to glide through these phases with ease. If a conflict grows, it can become disastrous. However, with the right methods and thinking, it can be eliminated the right way.

1. Stay calm

The first thing to do whenever a conflict arises is to stay calm. It is only when you stay calm that you can think clearly. Being aggressive and reacting can harm the situation rather than making it better. Be proactive and not reactive. In your calm mindset, try to re-analyze the situation and find out what has caused the conflict to occur. This way, you will also be able to understand the other person and perhaps explain yourself in a better manner.

2. Empathize

Put yourself in the other person’s shoes. Look at it from their point of view. You will probably understand what they’re getting at and what caused the rift or difference in their thought process. This step will also help you to build a negotiation between both the parties. Empathy leads to compromise and eventually a win-win situation.

3. Take responsibility

Sometimes it can go overboard, get abusive and hurt both parties but most importantly, you should know when to put a stop to it. When the conflict gets verbally abusive, it must be ended. Going to such an extent can bring no benefit as it only aggravates the issue. Therefore it is important to be mature while resolving conflict by maintaining temper and language. Also, when it is your mistake, it is important to admit it first and then correct it. You can’t blame anyone else for your mistakes and your failure to handle your own responsibilities.
