How to Make Lip Balm at Home?

A lip balm provides a soothing and nourishing touch to dry lips. Atmospheric pollutants and changing seasons often take a toll on soft lips, so it becomes important to use lip balm regularly. Now you can make lip balm at the comfort of your home without using industrial chemicals. Here’s a list of some of the lip balms that you can easily make at home.

1. Basic Lip balm

For preparing basic lip balm, all you need is 2tbsp of Vaseline or any other plain petroleum jelly, 1tsp beeswax (preferably freshly picked beeswax) and 1 tbsp oil. You can use any of the nourishing oils like almond, coconut, castor or sesame.
Now use a microwaveable bowl and heat Vaseline for 20-30 seconds. Add grated beeswax to it and heat for another 20-30 seconds. Now ensure that Vaseline and beeswax are mixed properly. Add the oil and heat for another 10 seconds.
Your basic lip balm is ready. Keep it in a container with a lid. (You can use your old lip balm container too.)

2. Flavored Lip Balm

You can add your favorite flavor to your lip balm to make it more personal and unique. All you got to do is pick up your favorite essential oil (for example, peppermint, lemongrass, vanilla, lavender, lemon and tea tree). Now add to the basic oil used in the basic lip balm recipe in the ratio of 1: 10. That means if you are using lemon oil as flavored oil and almond oil as basic oil, then add 1 drop of lemon oil per 10 drops of almond oil. Rest of the recipe remains same.
