6 Home Remedies to Remove Stretch Marks

Home Remedies to Remove Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are those ugly lines that can be seen on the body after a pregnancy or after you have lost or gained weight suddenly. It is not only weight gain or loss or pregnancy that causes stretch marks, but other factors such as stress, rapid growth and change in physical conditions also play a role. The human skin consists of three layers, the epidermis or the outer layer, the dermis or the middle layer and the hypodermic inner layer. When the skin gets stretched, the collagen that holds it all together is weakened and the normal production cycle is disturbed. This causes fine scars to appear under the layer of the skin. They appear pink when they are formed but as days go by, they turn into a paler version of the skin color. Stretch marks can occur over large areas of the body, especially the stomach, thighs and arms. They are not very good to look at and fortunately there are home remedies to get rid of stretch marks. Here are some home remedies to remove stretch marks.

1. Cocoa butter

You should apply cocoa butter on the stretch marks everyday for at least two months. After applying, gently massage the area for about 10-15 minutes. You will start seeing results after a month or so. You can also make a mixture of cocoa butter, wheat germ oil, grated beeswax or vitamin E oil and apply it for better results. Heat the mixture, apply it and then cover it with a thin cloth. Leave it for as long as you can to get better results.

2. Castor oil

Castor oil is used to treat a lot of sin conditions and is useful to treat stretch marks too. You can either apply castor oil on the stretch marks and massage the area or heat it and leave it on after covering it with a heat pack. You need to massage the area for at least 15 minutes to see any results. As with any home remedy, you cannot expect any immediate results. You will have to wait for a few weeks or months for it to fade slowly.

3. Egg whites and olive oil

Take the egg whites and whip them up nicely. Apply it on the stretch marks and let it dry. Leave it on for a while. After you wash it, apply some olive oil to keep the area moisturized. This helps remove the stretch marks. Do it continuously for a few weeks to get the desired results.
