5. Chocolate Easter Eggs

Ingredients:
1 cup softened butter
3 pounds powdered sugar
2/3 cup condensed milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 pound chocolate (semi-sweet), chopped
2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
1/2 teaspoon salt

For Icing:
2 pounds powdered sugar
1 cup vegetable shortening
1/2 cup milk

Method:
– In order to increase the variety, divide the dough into parts and use extra flavors.
– Take butter in a large bowl. Beat it till it turns fluffy. In a gradual manner while beating mix the milk, vanilla extract, salt and sugar icing.
– On work surface, knead until it turns smooth.
– Shape them into 32 eggs.
– Refrigerate it for 1 hour or until it turns firm.
– Take a bowl and use warm water to melt the chocolate.
– Now, using two forks, dip an egg into the chocolate. Once it gets a good chocolate coat, remove the excess.
– Do the same with the rest of the eggs.
– Place them on waxed paper-lined baking sheets.
– Refrigerate them till the chocolate sets.

For Icing:
– Take the sugar in a large bowl. Beat it, till it turns fluffy.
– Now add milk to the solution and continue beating. Beat till it turns smooth.
– Now divide them into parts.
– Add a different color to each part. Add the color while beating.
– Finally use them to decorate the eggs.

6. Pretzels

Serves:16
Ingredients:
l 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
2 tablespoons margarine
1/2 cup shredded mild Cheddar cheese
2/3 cup milk
1 egg, beaten
l 1/2 teaspoons coarse salt

Method:
– Mix the flour, baking soda, salt and sugar in a bowl.
– Chop the margarine using a pastry blender, until it turns soft.
– To this mixture add milk and cheese.
– Keep stirring till the dry mixture dampens.
– Now, turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface.
– Knead the solution about 12 to 13 times.
– Divide the dough into half and roll each half into a 12×8-inch rectangle.
– Cut the dough lengthwise into eight strips, each of a size of one inch.
– Twist each of them into the shape of a pretzel.
– Brush it with a beaten egg.
– Sprinkle the coarse salt over it.
– Place them on lightly greased baking sheets.
– Finally. bake it at 400 degrees till it turns golden brown in color.
– Cool the baked pretzels for a few minutes on wire racks.
Serve warm.

7. Honey Baked Ham

Ham was one of the original main dishes of Easter. Even today, ham is an inseparable part of the Easter celebration.
Ingredients:
1 boneless and fully cooked ham, about 8 to 10 pounds
1 1/2 cups honey
1/4 cup cider vinegar
2 tsp ground cloves
2 tsp cinnamon
white sauce
1 cup brown sugar

Method:
Place the ham on a roasting pan.
Add honey, vinegar, brown sugar, cloves and cinnamon to it.
Heat the mixture at medium flame, till it begins to boil.
Paste the ham with white sauce.
Use aluminum foil to cover the ham, loosely yet neatly.
Now, bake in a preheated oven at 300 degrees for 2 hours.
Baste with sauce 2 or 3 times while baking.
