Sure your body does not look like it used to in your 20’s and 30’s and you can no longer carry off the same way in those old clothes. There are so many restrictions on what you should eat and what you should not eat. If pressure from outside was not enough, you have these hormonal changes, or premenopausal changes in your body that dictates what you can eat and what you cannot eat. It can be a really frustrating time but you need to take definite care of your food habits and your health at this age. Here is a list of foods that you must eat when you are in your forties, so you can relax, stay healthy and deal with the mood swings that come with menopause or the premenopausal stage.

1.Foods with less salt in them

You need to eat food that has less salt in them. You will be prone to a lot of bloating around this time and this is exactly why you should stay away from salty foods. If you do eat salty food, make sure you wash it down with a lot of water. When you drink water, the fluids retained by your body also get washed away. You can reduce the amount of salt intake gradually and choose foods that have less salt in them.

2.Up the calcium intake

You need to increase the level of calcium rich foods when you are in your forties. Make sure you do not overdo it as too much calcium in the body is also not a good thing. Instead of eating calcium supplements go for natural foods that are rich in calcium. Also be in regular touch with your doctor to discuss about the amount of calcium that your body needs. Eggs, fish and dairy products are a good option for extra calcium.

3.Less alcohol

When you hit your 40’s you should also worry about the amount of liquor you put in your body. Your body does not react the same way as it did when you were younger and alcohol can have a much more damaging effect. So reduce the amount of alcohol. If you do feel the need to drink, stay on light beers and an occasional glass of red wine. And drink lots of water in between so you would drink less.

4.Natural foods

You have to start eating more naturally when you are in your 40’s. Do not overwork your stomach and body by putting in too many processed foods. All those processed food and the accompanying fat is going to get deposited in your middle portion and also on your thighs which are extremely difficult to get rid of. Stick to natural foods, so you can get the excess fat off easily.

Eat a well-balanced diet that is rich in calcium, protein and carbohydrates and exercise regularly and you will not have to worry too much about what you should eat and not eat when you are in your 40’s.
