5 Common Complications Which Happen During Labor

4. Meconium Aspiration

Meconium is a tar like substance in the amniotic fluid that your baby has inhaled. Usually when the amount is low, a doctor or a midwife can take it out manually. If the baby has inhaled a lot of it, he or she must be admitted to the intensive care. Although only rarely life threatening, this causes breathing difficulties for the baby.

5. Nuchal cord

This happened when the umbilical cord is tightly wrapped around the baby making it difficult to breathe. This is usually rectified by using a vacuum or force ups. This happens in approximately 25% of births and it is a cause for concern only if the baby’s heart beat does not come back to normal or if the mother does not dilate enough.

Complications during labor are quite common and normal. Be prepared for anything before you go into the hospital and relax as much as you can.
