Steve McQueen’s Oscar winning movie ’12 Years a Slave’ is an adaptation of the 1853 memoir ‘Twelve Years a Slave’ by Solomon Northup. Protagonist Northup was born a free citizen but was plunged into 12 years of slavery. This British-American historical drama film was so intense that it had Oscar written all over it. ’12 Years a Slave’ received many recommendations from the critics and was able to bowl over the audiences all across the globe. 1. Chiwetel Ejiofor took a short break after the release of the movie.
