Steve McQueen’s Oscar winning movie ’12 Years a Slave’ is an adaptation of the 1853 memoir ‘Twelve Years a Slave’ by Solomon Northup. Protagonist Northup was born a free citizen but was plunged into 12 years of slavery. This British-American historical drama film was so intense that it had Oscar written all over it. ’12 Years a Slave’ received many recommendations from the critics and was able to bowl over the audiences all across the globe. 1. Chiwetel Ejiofor took a short break after the release of the movie. The lead actor in the movie who played Solomon Northup said that the movie affected him in great volumes professionally as well as personally.
