Are You A Celebrity Worshipper?

Impact on the attitude

Ever thought celebrity worship could do good for anyone? Well, it has. Interestingly, there have been some positive effects, albeit few. Some kids like Mojo, 12, for instance, have taken to their loved ones in a positive way. Mojo involved himself with a not-for-profit that taught street children. He was inspired by U2’s lead singer Bono who did a large round of charity last year. This proves research that identifying with a celebrity is a natural part of human development and it is perfectly healthy to take after them.

Natalie, 14, loves Geri Halliwell. After watching Geri’s phenomenal aerobic dance in her chartbuster “It’s raining men”, she instantly signed up for dance class. She also saw one of her interviews in which Geri talked about the importance of exercise and Natalie has sworn by her advice ever since. Now even Natalie’s mom loves Geri Halliwell because it’s only because of her that Natalie is doing something so good for her body! Depending on who the celebrity is – whether a sportsman, politician, musician or an actor, your child can take inspiration from a lot of their qualities if guided in the correct way. Ask your child why he/she likes a certain celebrity. This will give you a clear indication of where the obsession is going to lead (or not).

The reality of celebrity worship

Coming back to Susan, we finally managed to take her out from her state of celebrity obsession. Susan was in complete love with Kylie Minogue. She thought that Kylie had the most perfect body and the most perfect life ever. After Kylie Minogue started dating Orlando Bloom, Susan was even more star struck as she started thinking that her knight too would come riding on a horse and would look like Orlando. Susan’s counselors at school made her realize through various psychological activities and tests that celebrities are real people with real problems like her mum, for instance. They explained to Susie that Kylie’s pristine shiny skin would be airbrushed by Photoshop and a lot of makeup would be used by her. Through a story, they explained to Susan that even Kylie had humble and ordinary beginnings.

You need to decide whether to call yourself a celebrity worshipper or not. Understand that there are very few celebrities these days who have special talents and attributes; most of them are simply money minting machines. On the other hand, if you really like a certain celebrity, then try to take after their good qualities, not how they look and what they wear.
