All You Wanted To Know About Hair Removal Methods

Threading

How can you not know this. Threading keeps our brows pretty and facial hair away! It is a simple and effective way to pull out unwanted hair, especially on the facial area. You must already be one step ahead of me and thinking of the pain that comes with pulling out more than one strand at a time. But hey, who said life was easy?

Epilators

Yep, we all have one for those urgent moments. Epilators are similar to razors, except they pull the hair out mechanically. In simple terms, it’s like multiple tweezers attacking you at once. Many of my friends swear by their epilators and use them regularly for their arms and legs. Effects will usually last from several days to weeks. A good epilator can cost between $40 and $150, depending on the brand. I reckon that the only downside of the epilator is that it may fail you at times if you have very fine hair growth. And don’t forget to pull that skin if you want to avoid those nasty pinches!

Permanent Hair Removal:

Laser

I remember the 90s when the word ‘Laser hair removal’ was the new thing in beauty procedures and it has stuck around for quite a while now. In this procedure, the laser light attacks dark matter – pigments of your hair which results in permanent hair reduction. A few things you need to know about laser treatment – it’s fast, may require additional sittings after the initial 3-8 sittings depending on various factors, hair may grow back again in years, and it’s expensive. I suggest that if you have light skin and dark hair, this one’s for you. Consult a certified practitioner before you decide to go for the treatment because I have heard horror stories, note deliberate use of word ‘stories’, of women who suffer from skin discoloration, regrowth of hair, blistering or scarring.

Electrolysis

This one’s going to sound creepy. Electrolysis involves inserting a fine needle into a hair follicle and then applying electric current to the root, which stops it from producing more hair. Ladies, it is not scary as you think! This is probably the best way to remove hair on a permanent basis, if done the right way. You may be required to go to the practitioner for repeated treatments. I know of a few DIY treatments out in the market but I do not recommend them. I suggest going to an experienced practitioner. It is better to pay those extra dollars and get it done the right way. You should also know that there can be infections or skin damage in some cases. Electrolysis is expensive and treatments can cost from $45 to $200 per treatment.
Personally, I am not much of a Laser or Electrolysis fan. I still like to stick with the tried and tested methods of hair removal. I find shaving and waxing good enough for my needs. If you hate spending time on shaving and waxing, or playing around with those tweezers, you may want to consider permanent hair removal. Make sure you consult a professional and more importantly, consider the big hole in your pocket that it will make. Recently I was talking to a friend who is an air hostess who told me that she and her work mates had signed up for permanent hair removal together and got a bulk discount. I smiled, thinking, bulk discount for hair removal! I need to move on with the times. Do you?
