Since dogs are one of the most-liked animals in the world, it comes as no surprise that there have been many memorable movie characters played by them. These movies have given us some unforgettable dogs and we list a few of them.

1. Lassie

Well, no surprises here! One of the most famous collies, Lassie featured in the 1943 movie, “Lassie Come Home”. The role that the dog played in the film was that of an obedient and a well-trained pooch who is extremely loyal to the young Timmy. You could find Lassie at the heart of action, be it helping the community or saving Timmy.

2. Marley

This adorable Labrador was at the heart of the tear-jerking film titled “Marley and Me”. The movie is based on a memoir and made everyone fall in love with the affectionate and adorable yellow lab. It might come as a surprise to many that the role of Marley was played by 18 different cute dogs.

3. Benji

A cute pound puppy Higgins became a movie superstar in the 70s and the 80s. He played the role of Benji, an adorable pooch with a soulful expression. The world saw Higgins starring as Benji in several movies, and also in two hour long T.V. specials. So much was the popularity of this dog that he had his own brand of dog food. The legacy was continued by his daughter, “Benjean”.

4. Beethoven

The most adorable troublemaker, this loveable St. Bernard starred in the 1992 film, “Beethoven”. Even though he played a stray dog in the film, he successfully foiled an animal testing ring, ruined a bad business deal, and outwitted dog thieves.

5. Petey

In the 1920s and 30s, Pal, a Staffordshire terrier played the role of Petey in famous movies like “Our Gang” and “Little Rascals”. Such was his popularity that Pal had his own fan club and reportedly got more fan-mail than Buckwheat.
