8 Tips to Teach Your Children Obedience

Your innocent young ones learn many lessons regarding eating, walking and talking. Along with these things there is one necessary trait which every parent wants in their child and that trait is- obedience. Most of the parents think that instilling obedience in children is a very challenging task but actually it’s a smart task which can be done patiently and consistently. Here are some tips which may help you as a parent to inculcate obedience in your child.

1. Tell your kids about the importance of following rules and laws

Children are absolutely unaware about the outside world. It is important to sit with them and talk about the various rules and regulations that exist. For instance, you can tell your child why we always have to get our stuff checked at the airport. You can tell him that this is an important rule which everyone must follow. You can also start with understanding the perception of your kids about rules. Later, you can explain the necessity of rules. For instance, you can tell them why it is important to stop your car when the traffic light is red. These examples will not only help your kids protect themselves but will also let them learn about the importance of norms.

2. Set some norms for your home

You can start with making a time table for your kids. You can include every activity of your child in the time table. You must include bed time, nap time, TV time, home work time, breakfast time, lunch time, dinner time and play time in the time table.

3. Communicate all the rules to your children clearly

After setting the rules it is very important to communicate all the rules to your children clearly. If children don’t accept some rules then parents can rethink on those rules, make changes in them and then bring them to their child’s table. You must accept and appreciate your child’s valid points.

4. Decide and communicate the consequences for disobeying rules

Along with rules, you must also convey the consequences of disobeying them. You can decide some mild punishments for your children and use them when kids break any rule. For instance, you can stop your child’s pocket money for a week, restrict their video games or you can restrict them from watching TV for a small time period. Don’t be too harsh or too gentle on children when they break rules.
