8 Tips for Traveling With Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) also known as spastic colon is a digestive problem that causes immense pain in the abdomen, bloating, nausea, vomiting, constipation and other irregularities. These symptoms arise during travel as the intestinal walls contract and propel the broken food especially liquid to release in the form of urine or vomit. However, this doesn’t mean that one can’t travel if they have IBS. We give you some tips for traveling with Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

1. Prepare yourself

Prepare yourself before setting out for a journey that uneasiness will be there. Come prepared with all the necessary stuff like wipes, additional clothes to change and a portable toilet. You can also pack your bag as per your necessities.

2. Eat regular food

Proper low spice food should be taken. Food high in spices, alcohol, high fat food, caffeine, chocolate, sodas and carbonated drinks should be turned away.

3. Practice breathing exercises

Breathing exercises help you control your breath. With right breathing, limited air enters your lungs and as a result, there will be no gas problem.

4. Relax your body with meditation

Don’t panic thinking about IBS. Just relax your body and one way of relaxation is meditation. By meditating, your mind will not keep going to the recurring abdominal discomfort you may be having.
