7 Ways to Identify Manipulative Behavior

5. Acting victimized

How would you react if you saw a person who claims to have been a victim of financial fraud? Would you be willing to lend them a few dollars? While this was just an example, such people may act like victims to soften your heat and get you to do the things they want you to do. Manipulative people typically use this method to nab others who trust too easily.

6. Smooth talking all the time

Smooth talkers may not always have genuine intentions. If someone smooth talks to you regularly, they could be doing so with a strategic purpose of manipulating you. Manipulative behavior may not always involve confrontation, anger or arguments. So even if you encounter a calm, subdued and pleasant personality who smooth talks you a lot, you could be a target for being manipulated.

7. Trying to gain your trust

It is possible to manipulate someone only when their trust is gained. Identify a manipulative person by observing if he/she is trying to coax you, cajole you, do the things that please you or gain your trust in any possible way. When you spot someone desperately trying to get in your good books or attempting to gain your trust, guard yourself from being manipulated.
