7 Ways to Bond With Your Aloof Teen

Ways to Bond With Your Aloof Teen

Teenagers have a lot of things going on in their lives. From raging hormones to peer pressures, everything can make them aloof and impersonal to you. But with your love, support and understanding, you can re-bond with your aloof teenager. Here are seven ways to do it:

1. Buy two tickets of his favorite rock star band or the upcoming sports game

Gift him those two tickets and give him the freedom to choose. Do not try to impose yourself on him, give him the choice. You might want to grab this opportunity to go with him, but teenagers often feel embarrassed going out in public with their parents. They are happy with their peers. So let him decide. Even if he doesn’t take you, he’ll appreciate your gesture and it will go a long way in cementing your relationship.

2. Listen to him

Seriously, please just listen to him. Often parents are just so busy lecturing about how things should be and how the teenager should be behaving, that they just stop listening to their kids. So the best way to re-bond with your teenager is to genuinely lend an ear and sincerely listen to what he has to say.

3. Do not treat him like a kid

Of course you still view him as your lovely little kid, but please acknowledge the fact that your kid has grown up and he doesn’t like to be treated like a little ‘kiddo’ anymore.

4. Respect his privacy

The moment you start respecting his privacy, he’ll start seeing you in a different light. A good parent is the one who is cautious for the safety of his child without intruding into his personal space. So aim for being such a parent!
